Canadian customers using Rogers 2G/3G cellular communicators should prepare for the impending shutdown of these networks. As of March 31, 2025, all 2G/3G communicators will cease to function. The most immediate effect will be a trouble condition on your system, but in many cases, communication will stop entirely.

As one of Canada's major cellular providers, Rogers has maintained its 2G/3G network longer than some U.S. counterparts, such as AT&T and Verizon, which sunset their older networks years ago. However, with Rogers now completing its infrastructure upgrades, it is time to retire the remainder of these aging networks.

Is Your Alarm System Affected?
If your security system relies on a Rogers 2G/3G cellular communicator, it is essential to plan for an upgrade. This may involve replacing just the communicator, or in some cases, upgrading the entire system. If your system uses cellular communication as its sole method of connection, failure to upgrade will result in a complete communication loss once the sunset occurs. A trouble condition will appear, and it won’t be possible to clear it without upgrading.

For dual-path systems with a Rogers 2G/3G communicator, communication will continue after the shutdown via your alternate path (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet), but a persistent trouble condition will remain until the cellular communicator is replaced or disabled.

Alarm.com Users – Be Prepared
Starting in October, Alarm.com customers with 2G/3G Rogers communicators will see a trouble message in their app or on the website, urging them to upgrade. This message will remind you to act before the shutdown in order to avoid service disruption.
